During OSA the airways are obstructed and pauses in the breathing develop. OSA can be recognised as loud snoring and pauses of silence between snores. A partner or family members can observe not only loud snoring, but snoring and suffocation, or even desperate fight for breath, while a person is asleep.

As a result, diseases with high risk of death develop with age: arterial hypertension, angina pectoris, hear arrhythmia at night, myocardial infarction, stroke, metabolic disorders. The work capacity of a person, their quality of life suffer considerably as a result of drowsiness, furthermore patients with OSA die in traffic accidents seven times more frequently.
