Gastric Balloon for Weight Loss

Gastric Balloon for Weight Loss

The Allurion Intragastric Balloon System for gentle weight loss

The Allurion technology consists of a small capsule containing a balloon, which is introduced into the stomach with water under medical supervision. It does not require endoscopy, surgery, or bariatric intervention, nor does it require anesthesia. Once the balloon reaches the stomach, it is filled with saline solution, and its position is checked using an X-ray.

The balloon stays in the stomach for 16 weeks, after which it naturally dissolves and is excreted through the digestive tract. The balloon fills the stomach, reducing hunger and providing a prolonged feeling of fullness, slowing digestion. Combined with a personalized nutrition plan, this leads to a weight loss of 20 to 25% of the total body mass! The procedure takes up to 30 minutes, and a rest period of up to two days is recommended after the balloon insertion.

When is a gastric balloon recommended?

The gastric balloon system is recommended for patients with increased body weight and obesity, where the body mass index (BMI) is above 27 (BMI > 27).

This method can be particularly helpful for patients who have managed to lose a significant amount of weight on their own, for example, from 130 kg to 100 kg, but then the process stalls, and they need further assistance.

Additionally, the gastric balloon procedure is suitable for those who find it difficult to follow strict diets or struggle with discipline – weight will decrease with the balloon even if the patient doesn’t perfectly adhere to discipline. Of course, results will be better if dietary guidelines and the program are followed.

It's not just a gastric balloon; it's a six-month program

The program involves close collaboration between the patient, a nutritionist, and a leading physician. During the initial consultation, the nutritionist creates a personalized plan for the adaptation and weight loss process. Every five weeks, follow-up consultations are held to adjust the plan and discuss any concerns in person.

The patient also receives Allurion smart scales, a smartwatch, and an app that allows daily communication with specialists, provides reminders, and most importantly, monitors weight changes.
