Nephrology

A nephrologist is a specialist of diagnosing and treating renal and urinary tract diseases. A nephrologist, mostly, is dealing with diagnosing renal diseases and dynamic monitoring and treatment of patients with renal failure.

Red flags for visiting a nephrologist:

  • Poor appetite, nausea, more often in the mornings;

  • Unexplainable tiredness, fatigue, weight loss;

  • Nonpassage of urine;

  • Frequent nocturnal urination;

  • High, difficult-to-treat blood pressure.

Since renal diseases are complicated, they often require a multidisciplinary cooperation. For example, a urologist treats kidney stones, whereas a nephrologist controls the renal function.
A nephrologist treats complicated urinary tract infections, as well as monitors patients after renal transplantation and chronic renal diseases.
