Bioelectrical impedance analysis method (Impedanciometry)

Upon the performance of bioimpedance analysis or impedanciometry, the biological resistance of the soft tissue of the body to electric current impulses is measured.

The examination allows to collect data on:

  • The current and preferable mass of the fatty tissue in the body (mass and percentage),

  • The current and preferable mass of the muscle tissue in the body (mass and percentage),

  • The amount of fluid in the body (mass and percentage),

  • The amount of fluid in the cells and extracellular space,

  • Body cell mass,

  • Metabolism at rest,

  • Preferable body mass,

  • And other parameters.

Measurements of the amount of subcutaneous and internal fats are possible (especially in patients, who suffer from or are at risk of cardiovascular diseases).

The structure of individual body parts can also be measured, for instance, the structure of the upper arm.

This method is very important for the assessment of body structure, since height and weight alone do not point to obesity. The amount of muscle mass and fluid in the body is important.

For instance, athletes will have high body mass index at the expense of high muscle mass.

These parameters change in sick people as well. If fluid retention in the body occurs, the body mass index can be normal at decreased muscle mass parameter.

It is important to know prior to plastic surgery manipulations, how much fat is stored under the skin, because this is the fat that will be removed.

Immediately after the examination, the customer receives a computerised printout about body mass forming structures and proportions thereof in the body at the moment of diagnostics, as well as the preferable results.

After bioelectrical impedance diagnostics, the body aesthetics specialist develops individual therapy programme (body care procedures) for the obtaining of the desired result. The reaching of this result requires involvement of physician dietologist (nutrition therapy) and physiotherapist (physical activity) as well.

It is important to repeat this method of diagnostics and evaluate the changes in body structures during nutrition therapy, as the body mass and shapes are changing.

Instructions for the patient: 1) do not eat or drink for 4 hours prior to the examination; 2) exclude physical activity for 12 hours prior to the examination; 3) do not pass urine for 30 minutes prior to the examination; 4) do not use alcohol for 48 hours prior to the examination; 5) do not use diuretics for 7 days prior to the examination; 6) do not perform the examination during menstruations.
