Vascular surgery or blood vessel surgery

Vascular surgery or blood vessel surgery

A vascular surgeon (angiosurgeon) is a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the arteries and veins. They treat patients using both conservative methods (medications, lifestyle changes, etc.) and surgical techniques.

During the consultation, the vascular surgeon will take your medical history and usually perform a duplex ultrasound examination. During the visit, inform the doctor about all your health conditions and describe your symptoms in detail, including those that you believe may not be related to your visit to the vascular surgeon.

To make your consultation more productive, think in advance about the questions you would like to ask your doctor. For example:

  • What has caused my symptoms?

  • What examinations and treatment do I need?

  • What changes should I make in my daily routine and lifestyle?

Write down all medications you are currently taking and bring the list with you. If you have received previous treatment, bring along the results of earlier examinations or medical reports from healthcare institutions.

If necessary, the vascular surgeon will refer you for additional tests or to other specialists. Once the diagnosis has been established, the surgeon will recommend possible treatment methods and, together with the patient, decide on the further treatment plan, planning surgery or minimally invasive procedures if needed. If conservative therapy is recommended, the doctor will determine the frequency of follow-up visits.

Both insurance-covered services and paid services are available.
