An immunologist diagnoses and treats diseases of the immune system. Immunology is a field that links together the course of a disease and the ability of the body to fight it, involving the immune defence mechanisms directly or indirectly.

An immunologist is most commonly sought out, when a person has a prolonged disease, is experiencing severe symptoms after an acute disease, when the treatment is not helping, when the person is prone to various new skin formations, if suddenly he is experiencing symptoms of an allergy, allergic reactions or he has questions about vaccination.
